Update from Worcestershire LEP Chief Executive, Gary Woodman: October 2017

I am delighted to announce that we have opened registrations for this year’s Worcestershire LEP Annual Conference 2017. We are expecting 450 delegates to attend our half-day conference from 8:30am to 1:30pm on Friday 1 December at the Chateau Impney, Droitwich. Our event, hosted by BBC presenter Mary Rhodes, will provide businesses with the latest news on LEP priorities and how we will ensure long-term prosperity for the county.

We will be joined by a number of expert organisations with the latest guidance on Worcestershire’s connected, creative and dynamic projects, and there will be opportunities to meet the experts throughout the morning and during the networking lunch. I would urge all businesses to register for our conference at the earliest opportunity.

Our conference will cover many of Worcestershire’s successes from the last 12 months, including our recent national successes. We recently announced our plans to build one of the UK’s first 5G test beds in Worcestershire. This innovation in 5G will revolutionise the way business works not just locally, but internationally. We’ve also seen national success after becoming the first area in the UK to successfully recruit 100% of local secondary schools into the Careers and Enterprise Company Enterprise Adviser Network, helping to bring together our secondary schools and employers effectively.

We are continuing to make great strides in the delivery of our Growth Deal projects. More businesses are reaping the benefits of having faster broadband connections and it’s having a hugely positive impact on boosting business productivity. We are also delighted to see that the Heart of Worcestershire College’s ‘The Base’ has won a national award at the ‘NASEN’ Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Awards and our congratulations go to the college.

Promoting our local successes is key to raising the profile of Worcestershire as a business location and I was therefore delighted to be a part of this month’s trade delegation at Cyber Maryland. As part of the delegation, we visited the prestigious Cyber Maryland Conference, giving delegates the opportunity to showcase their cyber products and solutions to the US market. There certainly is a lot of positive news to talk about in Worcestershire at the moment and I would recommend reading BDO’s latest Growth Barometer report as a great summary of the county’s recent successes.
