The European Wheelchair Basketball Championships start today – 73 action-packed matches will take place over the next 10 days with teams bidding to secure the European title and a coveted qualifying place for next year’s Paralympic Games in Rio. Is your business ready to benefit from an influx of international visitors and have you got your tickets to watch this exciting event?
The Championships are one of a number of local high profile sporting events over 60 Days of Sport that will shine the spotlight firmly on the County and provide further opportunities to businesses. This includes extraordinary events such as the Worcester 10k run-bike-run on 20 September and the Aviva Tour Ride on 4 October which is the official sportive of the Tour of Britain with former World Champion Hugh Porter MBE taking part. These are in addition to the many excellent sporting fixtures at our sporting grounds including the Worcester Warriors’ first game back in the Premiership.
We know such sporting events boost the economy with hosting Stage 4 of the Tour of Britain last year bringing almost £1m to the County. Do consider the business opportunities available including possible publicity and sponsorship, workplace challenges or entering teams into events as well as any opportunities that could be available due to an increase in visitors.
Also look out for business events during the 60 Days of Sport with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) hosting a free session at Sixways Stadium on 28 September for potential exporters looking at ‘Winning sales in global sports projects.’ The global sports market is vast – ranging from building construction, security, related infrastructure to of course the sporting aspects – and so do consider the wider opportunities and register early to avoid disappointment.
All information and links are available from the Worcestershire LEP’s website at www.wlep.co.uk and via Twitter using #60DaysofSport. Make sure your business benefits from these opportunities and enjoy taking part and watching some excellent sport in the coming weeks.
