Business festival to highlight cyber security and quantum computing

The annual Malvern Festival of Innovation returns 8 – 13 October 2018, this year highlighting amongst other subjects, advances in cyber security and the emerging field of quantum computing.

Cyber security remains a key growth sector for Worcestershire, but its implications and indeed implementation should be of interest to all types of business around the region. The Festival offers a unique opportunity to connect with experts and thought-leaders for help, advice and insights.

Included in the line-up at this year’s symposium on Thursday 11 October 2018 in the Malvern Theatres will be an update from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) on how businesses large and small can get the basics of cyber security right in the face of evolving threats.

We will also hear from a number of SMEs active in the sector and at the forefront of technical research and development.  Sir John McCanny will deliver a keynote about the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) in Northern Ireland, its involvement with new London Cyber Innovation Centre, and how businesses in and around the Midlands can collaborate.

And for those with an eye on the future, the programme will include talks about quantum computing and how this technology will have a major impact on digital security and the way in which computers solve complex problems in general.  Leading the discussion, Professor Tim Spiller Director of the York Centre for Quantum Technologies and Director of the UK’s Quantum Communications Hub will argue that quantum technologies are disruptive and provide advantages over the current, conventional technology in use today.

Other festival highlights include the Environment and Sustainability symposium on Wednesday 10 October morning and the Startup Stories session later that evening.  On Friday 12 October morning, the exciting new technology platform of blockchains and cryptocurrencies will be explored.

The festival ends on Saturday 13 October with a ticketed family show at Malvern Theatres and a free hands-on exhibition about science and technology for all to enjoy.
