Investment is hugely important to our local economy and I was pleased to be able to join over 70 organisations and partners at a World Class Worcestershire Inward Investment workshop last week. The event was a great opportunity to highlight the fantastic investment opportunities and inward investment service we currently have in place in Worcestershire. It is important that we work together with our partners to promote the county and the event underlined just how enthusiastic we all are to showcase the very best of Worcestershire. For more information on the investment workshop, view the news story on our website.
We have a fantastic opportunity to attract investment into the region when we welcome back a business delegation from Maryland in the US, following last year’s Worcestershire trade delegation. I am currently working with the Department for International Trade to organise the Maryland business delegation’s visit to the Midlands in the summer. Cyber is one of Worcestershire’s key sectors for growth and we are keen to raise the profile of our thriving Cyber and IT business community both nationally and internationally. I look forward to showcasing some of our innovative businesses as well as the academic institutions and exceptionally skilled workforce we benefit from locally.
Worcestershire LEP is continuing to invest in skills provision to provide our future workforce with the knowledge required for businesses and their development; this includes our £500,000 Government Growth Deal investment into new equipment for Pershore College. The investment will support the implementation of a new Agri-tech research and development unit for the National Centre of Excellence, which will help to provide a more specialised education for the students of Pershore College, and encourages more innovation in another of Worcestershire’s priority growth sectors. More information on our Growth Deal investments is available on our website.
