The scheme to fully dual the Southern Link Road (SLR) between J7 of the M5 and the Powick roundabout has recently taken a giant step forward.
Following the successful extension of the rail bridge over the SLR in May, work has been underway to complete the dualling between Norton and Whittington roundabouts.
Two lanes in each direction are now open, with eastbound (uphill) traffic using the original railway bridge and westbound (downhill) traffic using the railway bridge extension.
The next works in this area include the installation of three bridges; the Broomhall Way Footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists (to the west of the Norton Roundabout), the Crookbarrow Way Footbridge for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders (to the west of the Battenhall Railway Bridge) and a Farm Bridge (to the east of the Battenhall Railway Bridge).
Work starts in 2019 on the final stage of works to dual the road from the Ketch roundabout to the Powick roundabout. This stage includes an additional bridge to accommodate the extra two lanes of traffic needed.
