Local businesses are being reminded that the data protection regulation is set to change on 25 May this year to give people more control over their data. These laws cover people’s personal data in relation to how data is collected, used and stored.
The enforcement of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) begins from 25 May 2018. By this date businesses will need to make sure that their customers, employees and other individuals are able to trust them to look after and use their personal data properly and safely.
Organisations that do not comply to GDPR will receive risk a fine for failing to comply.
There’s a wide range of guidance and support available for organisations on the Information Commissioner’s website. This has been designed to help prepare and ensure everyone is ready for 25 May.
The ICO and Government are already taking action to protect people’s data and this will continue with the new data protection law.
Businesses can find available a 12 step summary of how they can comply with GDPR on the ICO website. For more information on how the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) can assist with GDPR follow this link.
