Join Careers & Enterprise Company for ‘The Big Match’ event

Businesses are being invited to join the Careers and Enterprise Company to inspire 25,000 young people through employer-led mentoring in schools across England.

Business people and colleagues who lead school outreach programmes are being invited to join ‘The Big Match’ – events that will explore the benefits of employer-led mentoring, communicate our latest research and provide an opportunity to match employer volunteers to mentoring organisations.

The Careers & Enterprise Company is leading the coordination of a national mentoring campaign to connect 25,000 young people to an employer mentor by 2020. The research shows that young people who are going to disengage from school have already done so by year 10, so the campaign focuses on those in years 8-10. The Careers and Enterprise Company are working in partnership with mentoring providers to achieve this mission and need support to recruit inspiring role models from business organisations.

Mentoring has been shown to be one of the three most effective activities for engaging young people with positive outcomes including improvements in behaviour, attainment and progression. There are also direct business benefits for your organisation, including:

  • Fostering employee engagement, satisfaction and retention
  • Developing employee professional and personal skills
  • Cultivating and developing the future workforce
  • Supporting vibrant communities (which include viable customers)

The Big Match events will provide your organisation with a unique opportunity to learn more about a number of proven mentoring programme providers at one time.  If you would like your organisation to be involved in mentoring (or to increase its current mentoring activities), you will then have the opportunity to engage with these providers in a structured and focused way to connect your employees to schools.

The events will take place in city centre locations in Birmingham, Manchester and London on the 9th, 10th and 11th August respectively.
