Add your support to Midlands Connect’s vision for increased transport investment

The Midlands Connect Partnership is working with Worcestershire LEP and the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce to invite businesses to pledge their support for its landmark 25 year transport strategy.

Midlands Connect, the transport pillar of the Midlands Engine, is a partnership of 22 local authorities, 9 Local Enterprise Partnerships, chambers of commerce and airports, working in close collaboration with Network Rail, Highways England, HS2 Ltd and their sponsor, the Department for Transport.

Local businesses and residents are being made aware of the case, based on evidence, for greater regional transport and infrastructure investment throughout Worcestershire. Midlands Connect hope to achieve this by working closely with the Government, to create a renewed focus on rebalancing the economy to focus on the needs of the regions, not just London.

Projects earmarked for further development in Worcestershire in 2018/19 include:

Midlands Rail Hub – The flagship rail project for Midlands Connect, identifying a range of interventions to put 85,000 additional seats and 10 extra trains per hour on the Midlands rail network and reduce journey times between our main towns and cities, improving east-west connectivity;

A46 – Developing schemes and interventions to improve congestion on up to 3 sections of the A46;

Midlands Connect strive to contribute to the Midlands Engine’s vision of improving productivity in the region at least to the national average, which would add £54 billion to the Midlands and UK economy by 2030, and create an additional 300,000 jobs.

Midlands Connect’s full strategy can be read on their website in full here.

Midlands Connect are also asking companies to join more than 70 other Midlands businesses who are already backing their vision, including JCB, Bombardier, Boots, DHL, PwC, NEC Group, Severn Trent and Marston’s.
