Last chance to enter the Worcestershire Aviva Tour Ride

Businesses and residents are being given their final reminder to enter the Aviva Tour Ride on 4 October, 2015.

Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership is hosting the 2015 Aviva Tour Ride, organised by Sweetspot, which builds on the success of hosting a stage of last September’s (2014) Friends Life Tour of Britain, the UK’s biggest professional cycle race.

Taking place on Sunday 4 October 2015, three options for the Tour Ride are available, headlined by a 100-mile Pro route which will showcase some of the most attractive, and hardest routes in Worcestershire. Entrants can also choose 75 intermediate and 40-mile challenge options to suit their ability.

Starting from outside the University of Worcester Arena, the 100 mile and 75 mile routes of the Tour Ride will incorporate elements of the 2014 Tour of Britain and will finish on Worcester Racecourse.

The event is open to both residents and businesses and costs £26 to enter. To register for the event, visit the Aviva Tour Ride website at www.tourride.co.uk.

Businesses are also being encouraged to take the opportunity to enter teams and compete for prizes:

  • Best dressed
  • Biggest team
  • Most raised for charity.

Businesses can also enter groups of five or more at a discounted rate of £20.

A limited number of £500 sponsorship packages are also available which will provide further promotional opportunities for local businesses. Sponsors will be profiled in publicity materials such as the rider manual, enjoy a reduced rate on group booking entry (of 5 or more riders), have their business’ logo appear on event banners and space within the event village to further profile their business.

Gary Woodman, Executive Director at Worcestershire LEP said: “I would strongly encourage all local businesses to consider the commercial opportunities the Tour Ride will provide as well as the opportunity to enter a business team to compete for a team prize. Entering a business team is a great opportunity to improve the healthiness and happiness of your workforce, provides a great publicity opportunity for your business and can also help your business to raise money for charity as part of your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).”

Councillor John Smith, From Worcestershire County Council, added: “The Tour Ride provides opportunities for Worcestershire’s businesses with sponsorship packages and publicity opportunities. The county has already hosted some highly popular cycling events with wide-spread media attention. I would urge local people to enter an event that suits their ability whilst enjoying some spectacular Worcestershire scenery.”

Recognising the role that sport has in boosting the local economy, the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership is working closely with the organisers, Sweetspot, and partners to bring this important sportive to the County: Worcestershire County Council, Worcester City Council, Wychavon District Council, Malvern Hills District Council and Wyre Forest District Council who will welcome the route into their districts as well as the University of Worcester (Arena) and The Racecourse who are hosting the start and the finish locations.

The Aviva Tour Ride, previously known as the Friends Life Tour Ride, was launched in 2009 as the official sportive of the Tour of Britain and Women’s Tour races. The Aviva Tour Ride gives amateur cyclists the chance to have the professional experience and enjoy a full supported ride.
