New business-led organisation to put Worcestershire’s world class foods on the map

A new business-led organisation is to put Worcestershire produce on the map as well as the table, from Bromsgrove beer to Evesham asparagus.

More of Worcestershire’s unique foods, drinks and produce could be sold in the UK and worldwide under the new move designed to help grow one of the county’s major industries.

Three mornings of businesses focus groups in locations across the county in January are the latest step in the planning of the new organisation, which is being brought to life by a partnership of local organisations led by the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (WLEP).

Gary Woodman, Chief Executive of the WLEP, said: “We believe the food and drink sector is a key priority for economic growth in Worcestershire.

“A lot more can be done to tell the story of the great food offers here. Research carried out by the Royal Agricultural University in 2015 confirmed that there is a need for an organisation to promote Worcestershire’s outstanding food and drink sector and this will help to shape these plans.”

Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) is delivering the business breakfast-style focus groups for the WLEP, supported by the Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, Worcestershire Growth Hub, and Worcestershire Food Links (supported by Worcestershire County Council).

Cllr Bronwen Behan, Chairman of the WRS Board, said: “Worcestershire boasts some of the best food and drink made by some of the most enthusiastic and passionate people anywhere.  We also have a dedicated group of people in governance that want to help them thrive. Now we want to make sure that everyone knows what our local experts – our producers, our manufacturers, our wholesalers – want and need to help them work.

“There are steps we can take right now even while the bigger issues develop, and we’ve invited businesses to take part. No-one knows the opportunities better than the businesses themselves.”

The events are all 7.30am to 9.30am and will have an introduction from a WLEP speaker. Places are limited, so if you wish to attend please contact WRS on 01562 738008 or Breakfast will be available.
