Response to Government’s review of Local Enterprise Partnerships

Commenting on the Government’s Review into LEPs, Mark Stansfeld, Chair of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “We welcome the outcomes of this review into the role and responsibilities of LEPs. This will strengthen Worcestershire LEP’s ability to support businesses, with a focus on enhancing productivity and delivering the objectives of the Strategic Economic Plan.  This plan aims to build a connected, creative and dynamic economy in the County.”

“Having recently been recognised by Government for our ‘exceptional delivery’ of Local Growth Deal Funded schemes, WLEP are pleased to see the review outlines the provision of additional funding to LEPs, in support for the development and implementation of a Local Industrial Strategy. With Government having already outlined £20bn to LEPs, nationally, at the start of the Local Growth Fund, we are pleased to see a firm commitment in terms of additional funding capacity for LEPs and continued support from all Whitehall Departments.

“As highlighted in the review, we must continue to be accountable in supporting the growth of businesses from all backgrounds and to draw upon the expertise of a truly diverse Board membership in terms of gender and ethnicity. We will start a process of recruiting new Board members to ensure that Worcestershire LEP can be even more reflective of its local business community.”

“We are committed to working with government and local stakeholders to successfully implement the outcomes of the LEP review, which will help to strengthen our identity as a convener for all businesses and as an advocate for Worcestershire and its investment opportunities across wider partners.”
