Solar Power – what replaces the export tariff for Worcestershire businesses?

Worcestershire businesses are being made aware of the new replacement service for the Energy Export Tariff.

Both installers and generators in Worcestershire have been waiting for information on the ‘Smart Export Guarantee’ and recently received a string of announcements on the replacement for the Energy Export Tariff.

Previously renewable energy producers were paid to generate and export energy to the national grid. The replacement known as the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is offered directly through the energy suppliers. Systems up to 5 Megawatts (MW) can get payments through the SEG.

At the moment the rate paid per Kilowatt Hour (kWh) ranges from 0.5p to 5.6p for electricity exported to the national grid.

Worcestershire businesses will be able to make major savings with using all the renewable generation power on site (not exporting anything). Installations are now sized to be ‘subsidy free’ and the business case is based on ‘self use’ and increasingly the use of batteries for power storage.
