Sport has a hugely beneficial impact on the economy and congratulations again to Worcester Warriors who have secured a well-deserved future in the Premiership. This year also marks the 150th year of Worcestershire County Cricket Club – look out for iconic Worcester landmarks in their new Worcestershire Rapids TV advert which is currently airing on ITV as well as #WorldClassWorcs featuring on their shirts.
In addition to the excellent fixtures at New Road, the Racecourse, the Arena and Sixways there are some extraordinary events taking place this year including the European Wheelchair Basketball Championships (August/September), the 10k and run-bike-run (September) and the Tour Ride cycling sportive (October). These events will shine a spotlight on the County and provide commercial and possible publicity opportunities for local businesses. For example, consider entering a team in The Tour Ride on 4 October 2015 to compete for a team prize which is great for team building and work-life balance for a healthy and happy workforce. It is also an opportunity to raise money for charity fulfilling your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and some great local businesses can help brand your team’s jerseys with your logo.
Local businesses can also get some free publicity by sharing their experience of Superfast Broadband – please do check our website to see how you can be involved. For businesses who would like to know more about the business benefits that faster Broadband can bring, of which there are many, visit www.superfastworcestershire.com to find out more and register to be kept updated so that you can upgrade and benefit at the earliest opportunity.
There are some excellent events coming up and so please do look out for the many local opportunities. Innovation and creativity is hugely important for business success and the monthly Innovation Wednesday sessions are an excellent opportunity to find out more about innovation across Worcestershire, see presentations about new developments and opportunities as well as network with like-minded business people. Guest speakers provide specialised insight with the next three sessions focusing on: Advanced Manufacturing (17 June), Sport (15 July) and International Opportunities (19 August). Visit our website at to find out more and do remember to book your place.
The nominations for the Worcestershire Apprenticeship Awards have now closed and I look forward to seeing the shortlist as I understand that so much talent was celebrated last year. The last few remaining sponsorship opportunities are available and do save the date of 12 November for the awards, which should be a fantastic evening with an even bigger audience than last year. Please also save the date of 13 November for the Worcestershire LEP Annual Conference, the day after the awards, as we hope to welcome even more businesses this year. Further information will be provided in subsequent newsletters.
Also, a final reminder to Worcestershire’s horticultural owners and businesses that you have until 19 June to apply for a share of £300,000 of European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) funding. Full details are available on the Worcestershire LEP’s website and I would urge interested parties to ensure that they do not miss this opportunity. We are also expecting an imminent announcement from the Big Lottery Fund and so please do check the LEP’s website for details or the Big Lottery Fund website at www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/esf
