Hello and welcome to the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership August newsletter. It’s really hot out there and we’re all sweating under the conditions. But the team and business in Worcestershire continues to grow and go forward. Lots of things going on that we’ll just give you some highlights for in the Local Enterprise Partnership newsletter.

So obviously exam results. Whole range of qualifications that our young people are receiving their results. Congratulations to those who got the results they wanted, for those who didn’t Careers Worcestershire are giving advice services. So whether you did or you didn’t and you’re rethinking your plans, Careers Worcestershire advisers are there to help you as a young person in terms of thinking about your future and what you could do, not just here in the county, because that’s where we’d love you to do it, but maybe slightly further afield, and then come back to the county to have your career here.

Other things that have been going on from the employers side, if you’re thinking about employing an apprentice at this time and some of your workshop planning, we’ve got a couple of things going on a series of workshops that the Growth Hub and the skills team are working together on. So if you’re thinking about recruiting or retention, noting that there is money available of up to £5,000*, if you decide as a small medium enterprise that you want to employ an apprentice. So for more details, contact the Growth Hub website and that will be great and plenty of information of how to recruit and equally, how to claim that grant.

And keeping the theme going of skills and our future workforce. As we head into the school year and back to school, we need to encourage as many businesses to give up a bit of time, doesn’t have to be the full week or two weeks, that is kind of traditional, around modern work experience. Any time that perhaps you’ve got employees or yourself can give up for mock interviews, or going to schools or hosting a young person in the business, come and talk to the team, because we need as many opportunities to get business and young people working together to prepare them for the world of work. So any support that you can give, we really need you to get involved, to help us, to help them.

And keeping the theme of kind of business support and what supports available for businesses. Advance Worcestershire is our latest program that takes small medium enterprises and looks at their growth plans. To find out more. Contact the Growth Hub team and they can talk to you about that new program where you can get information, advice and a small grant to implement some of the changes in your business to align yourself for growth. So a really important program there. And equally coaching and mentoring is about to launch as well. So a great opportunity if you’re looking and thinking that a coach or mentor alongside your business would help, then do let us know.

And finally tourism. Obviously, this time of year, the tourism sector is really in full swing, but actually the team are preparing for the next series of Taste Worcestershire, which happens in October. So if you’re an establishment or premises that are looking to bring people in and particularly local people to sample local food, then find out more about the campaign and how you can get engaged all through the month of October, offering those discounts for local people to come to your establishment, then we’re really interested in that. Obviously, more campaign details will come out on that. And finally Visit Worcestershire got to the final of the Midlands Marketing Awards for the work that we’ve been doing in Worcestershire to highlight our heritage assets and the work we’ve done there. So really putting Worcestershire on the map as a great tourism destination.

So as you can see, loads going on, keep cool where you can and we’ll catch up with the September newsletter in good time.
