Video Transcript

What have been the key updates from November?
” Merry Christmas to all the Worcestershire LEP Newsletter readers and a Happy New Year as we look forward to 2020 where an exciting year is planned here at the Local Enterprise Partnership. We’ve finished off the year with a real highlight the Worcestershire Apprenticeships Awards. Our sixth awards saw winners across the board, with a big congratulations to Thomas Smith from DRP Group who was our Apprentice of the Year and Phosters FM who were Employer of the Year.  The Junior Internship Programme, great to see 24 young people come forward for work placement with employers across the county. It’s really good to see how they link together during their studies and gaining work experience all the time. We’ve also seen two inward investors that we’ve been working with invest in the county. Sofico and Aspenify, both technology companies really driving the opportunity to showcase the county as a great place as a technology business to start up and grow. Big congratulations to Bishop Fleming, who were the British Chambers of Commerce, Business of the Year.  Fantastic news for our Worcestershire based companies who won and a number who were shortlisted. ”

What do businesses have to look forward to?
” We are soon to see, hopefully in the New Year, the opening of Worcestershire Parkway, another Growth Fund project. This is excellent news that goes with the opening of the Duckworth Engineering Centre last edition. Kidderminster Station is also not far away, so in quarter one of next year we should see an expansion to our rail facilities in the county. There is also some extra funding available for rural companies, some ERDF money, and there is a workshop in Pershore on the 7 January. Please book a place, visit the WLEP website. It starts at 6, come along to learn how you can apply for some of this national pot. ”

What is the latest update on the Annual Conference?
” Finally, the WLEP conference has now got a date, we will be at the Worcester University Arena on 31 March to have our annual conference celebration of all the activities that have gone on, but also a look to the future, and if you are interested in sponsoring or getting involved, do go to our website or contact the LEP team. “
