Video Update from Worcestershire LEP Chief Executive, Gary Woodman: March 2024

Video Transcript

“Hello and welcome from the roof here at Malvern Hills Science Park. In terms of the spring is definitely sprung with plenty of daffodils around. And it’s time for our Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership newsletter for March 24. Loads of stuff has been going on. Obviously last month we did the BIG Conversation event where we started that conversation with business and our partners about the things that the economy needs over the next 3 to 5 years.

It was a fantastic event and we’ve got some great feedback and I’m really pleased that that’s now starting to inform our work as we go forward into 24, 25 and hopefully beyond. If you missed that event, then actually there is a great opportunity for you to kind of see those and watch those at your leisure just follow the link in the newsletter to the YouTube channel and you’ll be able to see the three sessions on skills, on innovation and on the business environment. So we’re still taking feedback. So if you’ve got some feedback or questions, following watching those at your leisure, then please feedback into the team at enquiries@wlep.co.uk.

Other events that have been going on during March and the team have been really busy. We had the skills show at Sixways where we had over 50 employees and over four and a half thousand people and their families come through and look at what great careers and skills and opportunities that we’ve got here in Worcestershire for people, young people in particular, to learn and then go on to have a career in Worcestershire because we’ve got such a range of businesses and opportunities. So it’s really pleasing to see that event. We worked with our schools and education establishments in the county and certainly we’re already thinking about the event in 2025.

Another area that I’d kind of point you to in the newsletter is the GJS Dillon property report, a great report that really gives a snapshot of the last 12 months of the property market in the county and shows where there are opportunities to kind of look at investment or increase the volume of certain types of commercial property that our businesses need to grow.

I’d like to congratulate two West Midlands winners from the Federation of Small Businesses, Olpro limited, fantastic. They won an award and also Clarke Oil Ltd, both from Worcestershire, now up to regional winners and they go on to their national awards. So fingers crossed for them as they progress through the rounds of the Federation of Small Business National Awards.

Also in the county. We had the Visit Worcestershire Awards, absolutely fantastic. An amazing night and a great location, Ombersley Court. Thanks to all the team and the sponsors who got behind that and our Worcestershire winners now go on to regional and national, hopefully with fingers crossed finals there. But the quality and the range across the tourism offer is fantastic in the county and something we all need to celebrate.

And therefore as we go into the new financial year, this is your opportunity to perhaps refresh your business plan, refresh your workforce plan, have a conversation with the Growth Hub team about what business support is on offer in the county. We’ve got the new skillsboost, grant offer that could really help your business and get the skills that you need and your team. Have a chat with the Growth Hub. Follow the link in the newsletter.

As you can see, it’s loads of going on and we look forward to having a conversation with you in April and beyond.
