Video Update from Worcestershire LEP Chief Executive, Gary Woodman: November 2021

Video Transcript

“Hi and welcome to the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership November newsletter, it’s a bumper packed newsletter as per usual, when we look back on what’s gone on this month.”

“The COP26 review and Alex in the Green Room series, if you missed it, it’s available on catch-up through the LEP’s website, but our review of all that work and the sustainability agenda is coming more and more into our business community, particularly with those high-class electricity prices that are coming through the system and I know lots of businesses are looking to invest to reduce their carbon footprint as we go forward over the coming months and years.”

“And in the LEP news, we’ve launched our annual report, which covers all our activity of the financial year, 2020 to 2021, plenty that we delivered and plenty of impact from us and our partners on the Worcestershire economy during those difficult times.”

“In other news that went on, the Apprenticeship Awards were hugely successful, we’ve had over 600 views and if you haven’t, you can catch up on that through the Worcestershire Apprenticeship’s website, fantastic, congratulations to our winners of winners, both Platform Housing Group and Eleanor Steele.”

“Days are ticking down on the recruitment for Cohort5 for BetaDen, the deadline is the end of the month, so if you’re a company in Worcestershire that’s perhaps thinking of a new idea or some R&D, within the BetaDen programme there’s 50k worth of support in amongst that with advice and guidance and financial support to bring that product or idea to market.”

“Also, the Government’s community renewal fund announcement will see a BetaDen North offer, hear more about that, probably in December as we move that project forward across next financial year.”

“In terms of the Growth Hub, fantastic news and great to see some of those early Cohorts of the Peer to Peer Networks, but spaces are still available, although limited and if you’re looking for business support, contact the Growth Hub where those Specialist Advisers are and still have capacity across those five themed areas that really help business. That advice is free, doesn’t matter which sector you’re in or the size of company, just contact the Growth Hub and they’ll put you in touch with that free advice.”

“Looking for for the rest of this month, we’ve got an event on the 30th November at Worcester Bosch as part, to launch the Make It Worcestershire campaign and I encourage everybody to shop in small high street retailers as part of Small Business Saturday, so as you start to do your Christmas shopping, I encourage you to spend as much as you can in our independent high-street retailers.”

“And we’ve got Green Skills Weeks coming up for promotion of new and future skills in the green economy, which is growing at a really fast rate, linked to the outcome of COP26, we’re working with all our schools and colleges across the county to promote those careers and those new careers that are coming through as these opportunities open up.”

“Thank you all and see you in December for more bumper edition and all the work that’s going on here in Worcestershire and the LEP through the partners and I wish you a good build up to the Christmas festive season.”
