Video Update from Worcestershire LEP Chief Executive, Gary Woodman: September 2021

Video Transcript

“Hello and welcome to the Worcestershire LEP’s September newsletter, there’s been loads going on as always. I’m here on the roof at the Science Park, what a great location.

Last week we saw the COP Zero Carbon Tour come to Worcester at the Worcester Uni, fantastic event and we’re continuing the discussions in the build up to COP and the conference in Glasgow at the beginning of November, if you’ve got any questions that you’d like to submit to us, any topics that you think we need to discuss, then throughout October there are numerous events and opportunities to get involved about the way that business in Worcestershire is becoming more sustainable and work it’s way to NetZero.

Also last week it was great to be at the Festival of Business, fantastic that the event was back on obviously after the COVID break, good to see so many businesses there with a great atmosphere.

In terms of items that I’d like to highlight to you, we’ve had the last few places of Peer Networks coming through so, this is just a last call for those few remaining businesses and it would be great if you could sign up to that, lots of businesses have found the programme beneficial and case studies are on the Growth Hub’s website.

In LEP news, it was great to get the Plan for Growth launch last week, with support from our MPs, local authority leaders, many of our businesses as well have contributed to the new strategy to 2040 with a vision to create a connected, creative, dynamic economy and we’re starting to turn that strategy into actions already with numerous events around the sustainability, green skills week and others so, if you want to go back and have a look at that launch online, just follow the link. But it’s a great strategy, I think it sets the future for Worcestershire and where the partnership is taking the local economy.

Also, businesses in the A38 Bromsgrove area, I would encourage them to get in touch, on the 8th October where we’re working with Midlands Connect to host a round table about the improvements required to the A38, but also the difficulties that many businesses have in that area to remove congestion. That round table has hosted by our partner and if you want to get engaged come through, connect to us and we can put you in touch.

Also, great to see the Apprenticeships Award finalists announced and we’re looking forward to that virtual event that will be fantastic. Brilliant to see the range of companies, the range of young people and the training providers really getting behind the event, this year will be virtual but it’s going to be a fantastic celebration of all things about Worcestershire Apprenticeships.

Dates for the diary, just to note the Chamber Expo is on the 7th October at the Three Counties Showground and also we are doing a number of events related to the build up of COP, look out for those. One of our MPs, Rachel Maclean is doing a Redditch Business Leaders event on the 1st October.

Looking forward to plenty of discussions as we start to attend more events physically and hopefully we continue to see the economy grow with furlough finishing and businesses with plenty of vacancies are finding out staff as we build up to the Christmas period.”
