Watch Worcestershire 5G Consortium video filmed at industry leading 5G demonstration

Following an exclusive demonstration of 5G radio applications at Worcester Bosch and Yamazaki Mazak, members of the Worcestershire 5G Consortium were interviewed about the exciting potential of the testbed project for businesses and the economy. The video brings together passionate stakeholders to outline how the Worcestershire 5G Testbed is an industry-leading blueprint for next generation national 5G infrastructure.

The event was hosted by Worcester Bosch and Yamazaki Mazak, with representatives from a number of leading Consortium partners including Huawei, O2, Telefonica, QinetiQ and Worcestershire County Council. It was a milestone event that highlighted the success that can be achieved when technology, mobile and local authorities collaborate.

The demonstrations were made possible thanks to the visit of the Huawei 5G truck, which stopped by as part of its tour of the UK. During the demo, the audience experienced a series of videos and presentations on 5G, as well as having the chance to see examples and live demonstrations of 5G Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technology. The demos highlighted the revolutionary potential of the Worcestershire 5G Testbed for British industry.

When 5G becomes available in the UK in the next three years, it will have a profound impact on everyday lives; facilitating better services, more opportunities and most importantly, a more connected future in which communities will thrive. The opportunity is huge, both locally and nationally.

Early indications from Worcestershire’s 5G Testbed suggest that 5G could improve manufacturing output by as much as 1%. With manufacturing representing 10% of UK GDP, this equates to an enormous opportunity for businesses, government and investors in the UK. The Testbed will provide the model for solving the productivity crisis and enhancing output on a national scale.

Worcestershire LEP has been inundated with support since DCMS announced the county’s successful bid earlier this year. Worcestershire is leading the way for British industry and business productivity, all of which stems from the huge ambition of our innovative public and private sector, as well as the forward-thinking community in the region.
