Worcester has been named the UK’s top city for creatives, beating London, Manchester and Bristol to the number one spot in the newly published UK Creative Cities Report 2026 by Affinity.
The report assessed 50 cities across the UK against a range of measures including access to creative opportunities, creative workspaces and affordability.
Worcester achieved the highest overall Creative Benchmark Score, reinforcing its reputation as one of the country’s most exciting places to build a creative career and creative business.
The findings highlight the strength of Worcestershire’s creative economy, recognising Worcester’s unique combination of a thriving creative business community, collaborative workspaces, higher education opportunities and a cost of living that remains significantly more affordable than many larger cities.
Together, these factors are helping attract entrepreneurs, freelancers, designers, digital agencies and creative businesses looking to grow in an environment that supports innovation and collaboration.
The report also reflects a broader shift within the UK’s creative industries, with talented professionals increasingly choosing regional cities that offer a better quality of life alongside strong business opportunities. Worcester’s success demonstrates how smaller cities are becoming powerful centres for creativity, innovation and enterprise.
This latest recognition comes as Worcestershire continues to invest in its growing creative and digital sectors, strengthening the county’s reputation as a place where creative businesses can start, scale and succeed. From independent studios and creative agencies to technology companies and cultural organisations, the county is fostering an ecosystem that supports talent at every stage of its journey.
Councillor Adam Kent, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Finance, Corporate Services and Business at Worcestershire County Council, said: “We’re delighted to see Worcester recognised as the UK’s leading city for creatives. This achievement reflects the incredible talent, ambition and collaboration that exists across Worcestershire’s creative sector. Our county offers the perfect blend of opportunity, affordability and quality of life, making it an increasingly attractive destination for creative professionals, entrepreneurs and businesses looking to thrive.”
Deanna German, Global Creative Director at Affinity, said: “For years, the assumption has been that creatives need to be based in the major cities to succeed, but our research shows that growth is no longer confined to the borders of London or Manchester.
“Instead, smaller, often underappreciated cities like Worcester are quietly leading the way. Our analysis highlights that they offer a greater balance between quality of life and career opportunity, alongside a lower cost of living – a combination that’s becoming increasingly rare in bigger cities.
“While these major cities still make waves in the creative scene and are great places for budding designers, we’re seeing a regional reset.”
As demand grows for locations that combine affordability with access to talent and opportunity, Worcestershire is well placed to build on this momentum. National recognition of Worcester’s creative credentials reinforces the county’s wider ambition to grow its creative economy, attract investment and support the next generation of innovators.
