Worcestershire 1000 launches at Worcester Cathedral

A new network of county champions, known as the Worcestershire 1000, has launched today at Worcester Cathedral.

The network, made up of companies, organisations and individuals from all parts of the county, aims to raise the profile of Worcestershire as a great place to live, visit, work and to invest. This new approach has been developed by local businesses working alongside the Worcestershire LEP, Worcestershire County Council, Worcestershire Ambassadors and the University of Worcester.

The launch event introduced supporters of the network and some of the first members of the Worcestershire 1000; the Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Lt Col Patrick Holcroft; former England and Worcester Warriors rugby player turned business owner, Nick Baxter; and Iona Darroch, Severn Stars and England Roses netball player.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Lt Col Patrick Holcroft, said: “As Lord-Lieutenant of this great county, which has been my home since I was a boy, and my family long before that, I wholeheartedly welcome this excellent initiative and I am delighted to support Worcestershire 1000 and what it is seeking to achieve.”

Councillor Ken Pollock, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure, said: “Worcestershire has one of the fastest growing economies in the country. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to promote the county as a great place to do business, with many opportunities for investment.

“Worcestershire County Council is proud to be a part of the Worcestershire 1000, raising the profile of what the county has to offer – whether you’re here to visit, to work, to live or to do business, Worcestershire really does have something for everyone.”

Gary Woodman, Chief Executive of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “We’re delighted to have seen such a positive response to the Worcestershire brand, from local businesses, organisations and even some of our well known sporting figures. We’re proud to be a part of this brand community, to help raise the profile of the county particularly for the purpose of increasing inward investment and supporting Worcestershire’s growing businesses.”

By joining together with others who are passionate about Worcestershire, it is hoped that the Worcestershire 1000 will give the county a stronger voice and contribute towards growing the local economy.
