Worcestershire Careers & Skills Newsletter Video Introduction September 2019 – Gary Woodman

Video Transcript

What are the latest updates for skills in Worcestershire?
“Welcome to sunny Worcestershire as we enter the new school term, and prepare for our Local Industrial Strategy that we are doing business consultation with at the moment. Also, good news to see Worcestershire has been shortlisted for Careers Hub of the Year – great work by the skills team, Enterprise Advisers and schools, all that hard work has led to us being shortlisted. We’ve seen a number of good examples of the work the Careers & Enterprise Company and the Careers Hub are doing – the work with Chadsgrove School and the BBC – have a look on our website to watch the video they produced on that work. We also had the Deputy Chief Executive of the Careers & Enterprise Company at Nunnery Wood School on Friday, seeing all the good work we are doing there. ”

How are businesses benefiting from Junior Interns?
“The Junior Intern Programme at Morgan just showed the value of companies working with young people, showing them the careers of the future. So much so that Morgan now have two new employees. I think it shows – when businesses are struggling for skills – ways of engaging young people in the world of work can actually bring in some real talent.”

What skills events are there to look forward to?
“We’ve also seen the Worcestershire Apprenticeships Awards finalists announced, we look forward to November’s celebration at the West Midland Safari Park. And also a date for the diary, is the Worcestershire Skills Show on 4 March. Put it in now, obviously it’s the biggest event and this year’s event is set to be bigger and better than last year’s.”
