This week I would like to share some news about the work the Worcestershire LEP is doing with partners across the county and beyond, to improve digital connectivity.

At the Worcestershire LEP we have now confirmed the appointment of a new Digital Board.

This new board will be challenged to further strengthen the county’s progress with digital connectivity to ensure that businesses and residents are able to take full advantage of critical services.

This news follows the county’s ambition to further accelerate our progress with improving the speeds and availability of digital connectivity.

Worcestershire is seeing large investment into digital connectivity with partners like EE, part of BT Group, City-Fibre and Worcester-based provider of rural connectivity services, Airband, all confirming expansions to their networks to bring faster, more stable digital connectivity to businesses and residents.

I am pleased that we can appoint our new Digital Board as we have seen numerous success stories through the county’s digital connectivity projects and this new board will help to push these achievements even further forward. 2020 has demonstrated the critical need for digital connectivity for both businesses and residents and is a key component of driving greater business productivity.

An example of our success with digital connectivity would be with the Worcestershire 5G testbed, the team conducted research into the benefits that 5G technology could provide to manufacturing businesses and found that manufacturing businesses could implement 5G within their own factories and see productivity benefits. Once you expand these benefits out across the whole sector, it would be equivalent to £2.6 billion.

Even more exciting news for businesses is that the 5G testbed is now offering businesses the chance to test their own products or services with 5G. Those interested in exploring the potentials of 5G within their business should contact the team.

I would encourage those interested in learning more about the Worcestershire LEP’s Digital Board to visit the Worcestershire LEP website, where you will be able to access podcast features on each of our new boards.
