As we approach the enforcement date for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), it is vital that all businesses of all sizes ensure that they are fully compliant by the 25 May deadline. GDPR is hugely important to improve the way that businesses handle personal data and with a week remaining I would urge all businesses to visit the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) website which provides a much more in depth and detailed analysis of the new regulation and the steps businesses can take to ensure that they are compliant.

If you would like to read the ICO guide, please do visit their website www.ico.org.uk. We have also provided links to a useful 12 step summary of GDPR, which is available on our website, www.wlep.co.uk

On the topic of improving security in business, I would like to remind local companies to book their place for the upcoming Three Counties Defence and Security Expo 2018 (3CDSE) taking place on Thursday 31 May at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern. The Expo will bring together leading Defence and Security businesses from across the region, making the event a perfect opportunity for growing businesses to network with like-minded innovators.

The event will focus on the theme of innovation within the defence, security and cyber sectors and Worcestershire LEP will be present to discuss some of the technological advances in these sectors, including our development of a 5G testbed and how this will benefit local businesses. We are proud to be supporting the event and will be exhibiting as a founding partner on stand 140. If you would like to secure a place at the Three Counties Defence and Security Expo, visit the website www.3cdse.co.uk
