Worcestershire LEP Chair, Mark Stansfeld: 2 June

We are now fast approaching the deadline for the Worcestershire apprenticeship awards and I would urge all local apprentices, apprenticeship employers, schools and training providers to submit their entries before the 30 June deadline.

Our current Worcestershire Apprentice of the Year, Pippa Dressler-Pearson, has done a fantastic job in her role as apprentice ambassador for Worcestershire, helping to raise the profile of apprenticeships among the county’s younger generations, teachers and parents. Pippa has also achieved national success, winning the prestigious SEMTA Best of British Engineering Award which recognised her significant contributions in product design for Worcester-based manufacturers, Southco.

I am also delighted to see that the previous winners of the Worcestershire Apprenticeship Employer of the Year for 2016, drp, have also gone from strength to strength since winning their award. During last year, drp invested over £250,000 into the team’s professional development, including apprenticeships and training. They have since been able to double the size of their head office in Kidderminster and they are now encouraging other local employers to get involved in the Worcestershire Apprenticeship Awards.

I would like to thank all of the local sponsors that help to make this event possible, with Yamazaki Mazak (UK) Ltd and Worcester Bosch Group sponsoring the two main awards once again this year. Thanks also go to other award sponsors: Morgan Motor Company, Sanctuary Group, Worcestershire Business Central, Vestia Community Trust, Worcestershire Training Providers Association, Careers and Enterprise Company, Southco and Heartbeat Manufacturing.

I would urge all local apprentices, apprenticeship employers, schools and training providers to enter the awards as a great way of recognising the hugely positive impact that apprenticeships have on our local economy and I am looking forward to celebrating many more success stories like Pippa and drp at this year’s awards.

To enter the awards and to book your table, visit the Worcestershire Apprenticeships website, www.worcsapprenticeships.org.uk before the 30 June deadline.
